CCHS Announcements

 May 15, 2007

All rising seniors signed up to take AP literature are to see Mr. Ragsdale in Room 114 by the end of the day to pick up the summer reading packet.  Your signed student-parent agreement is due on Thursday.

Students taking AP Chemistry next year need to see Dr. B in room 319 after school today to get your summer assignments and your textbook.

Coaches from the 13 region 8 schools voted for the best soccer players of the year from this area and 5 of our boys won region honors recognition on the “All-Region Teams” list.  Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players, so this is excellent recognition for our boys from opposing coaches. CCHS was second only to region champ Habersham with the most players on the All-Region lists.  Making the men’s All-region 1st team are J.B. Erickson and Jorge Paseta.  Erickson and Paseta were voted team MVP’s for offense and defense, respectively, this season at Clarke Central.  CCHS’s 2007 Most Valuable Player, Brian Smith, was named to the 2nd team.  Receiving votes for “honorable mention” are juniors Beau Evans and Thomas Yoder.  Congratulations, boys!

The Boys Varsity Soccer meeting has been cancelled.  Coach Hicks will reschedule the meeting and notify everyone.

Coach Chuck Butler and Coach Courtney Knight would like to personally invite you to our Lady Glads Summer Fastpitch workouts.  This is a great time for you to improve your softball skills and develop a relationship with our coaching staff as we prepare to build our team for next year

Students should know that on Wednesday and Thursday we will be dismissed from school at 11:53.  There will be no lunch served on those days.  When the bell rings, students are to go straight to the bus area.  The buses will be leaving immediately after the bell rings.  Students that miss the bus will need to make other arrangements to get home.   Those students who drive should go straight to their cars and leave campus.  On these two days, the gates to the parking are will be closed 20 minutes after the bell rings.

The Lady Tennis Glads sadly ended their magical season yesterday in picturesque Dalton.  However, as has been the case throughout the season, they went down fighting!  Merin Yu and Athena Lao took care of business at number one and two singles, respectively.  The Lady Glads then fell at number three singles and number two doubles.  This left the clinching duties to the number one doubles team of Brittany Eberhart and Sarah Grace Dennis.  Unfortunately, they lost a nail-biter.  After splitting the first two sets, Dalton squeezed out a win, 6 to 4, in the third set.

Sports
Soccer:  Thursday night (4/19/07) the Clarke Central Boys Varsity Soccer Team traveled to Hart County for their final match of the season and beat the Bulldogs in a 15-0 rout.  The Gladiators end their season with 11 wins and 4 losses, and 1 tie, but were eliminated fromt he state play-offs in region tournament play.

The two teams played a pretty even match for the first 15 minutes when JB Erickson opened the scoring floodgates.  Erickson, who is well known for having scored game-winning field goals in the closing seconds in football over Hart County, would add his second goal of the match 8 minutes later to close out his career as a Gladiator with a team high 10 goals this season.  Also scoring in the first half was senior goal keeper Quint Harper with 2 goals; Senior Brian Smith had a goal and 4 assists; senior Manuel Chavez had a goal and an assist; Will Spencer had a goal and an assist, and Tyler Rice had 2 assists.

It was more of the same in the 2nd half with CC’s underclassmen taking the field and with 8 different Gladiators scoring.  Jorge Paseta, Tom Lingard, and JV stand-out Davey Norwood each recorded 1 goal and 1 assist.  Beau Evans and Adam Erickson added a goal each, while Jay Kloepfer, Pedro DePaz, and goal keeper Andrew Suddreth added their firs varsity goal to end the season.

Our girls played a great game against Hart.  Lis Carney hit the crossbar and the senior girls went out in style.

The soccor coaching staff would like to congratulate the boys and girls’ varsity squards and thank them for their hard work and dedication this seaon.

The CC Soccer Banquet will be held on May 7 in the cafeteria at 6:30 pm.  All JV and Varsity soccer players and their families are invited.  See Coach Hicks for details.

Tennis News:  The boy’s tennis season came to a disappointing close last Thursday morning as they went down in defeat to Eastside High.  This occurred despite a great performance by Zach Miller in his final match as a Gladiator.

The girl’s team managed to get through the first day by defeating Loganville, and clinching a spot in the state playofffs in the process.  On Friday, the girls defeated Heritage in the semi-finals earning another shot at undefeated Madison County.  Unfortunately, the Lady Glads could not pull out a miracle wihn, but it was close.

The Lady Glads will host the first round of the playoffs.  The date and opponent will be announced tomorrow.  S. Hinson
